There is no need to rub off the line of OTHERS in order to prove our OWN line bigger. (My Experiences with Truth – 5)   8 comments

In the last few months, I realized that in the present times, the most wide spread spiritual act in every religion is of giving spirited discourses talking about various topics around religion, its history and spirituality. The whole LOT of different Devotional TV channels have numerous teachers or speakers giving hundreds of discourses every week on various topics in their own attractive styles. And on the other side there are crores of people listening to their either self made or borrowed thoughts with great interest and passion.

Studying these various speakers and their discourses I found that somewhere or the other, all these so called teachers are not talking anything about the real thing i.e. meditation but on the contrary, are simply interested in proving their own religion the most authentic, original and even better than the other by their own logic and arguments. As I have learned, no religion teaches this kind of lesson anywhere in there Holy books. In fact every existing religion in the whole world, teaches us to respect the belief of the other too along with believing in your own being the best. That way they all teach us to maintain a sweet harmony among each other and live a more joyful life in our given time on this planet.

In this context, the best self explanatory reference can be given of “Sri Guru Granth Sahib” – The Holy Granth (Book) of Sikh Religion which is the one and only perfect example of communal integration in the whole world. In fact it’s the only religious scripture which has in it the divine poetic expressions of enlightened saints from different castes and religions, included with the same respect and love as given to all the SIKH Guru Sahibans. In fact no-where in the world, there is a HOLY BOOK which has such a wide vision to include the writings of great saints of different religions and sections without making any kind of discrimination at all. And that has rightly made many renowned religious writers and historians accept the importance of “SRI GURU GRANTH SAHIB” all over the globe, which in turn has also forced them to study and explore this Great Gift to Mankind in their own way.

Coming back to the topic itself, one has to bow down to the humility expressed in “Sri Guru Granth Sahib”, when the Holy Granth gives us a great lesson in this following line by Saint Kabir.

“Beyd Kateb Kaho Mat Jhoothey ….. Jhootha Jo Na Bichaarey”

The divine words humbly teach us that we don’t have any right to say that any VEDA or HOLY Scripture is false….., actually false are those who don’t contemplate or study them.

The beautiful meaning of these few words is enough to make any one fall in love with the Divine Shabads of “Sri Guru Granth Sahib”. Truly speaking the moment I heard this one line, I felt like really blessed to have read such sacred words, which very humbly teach us not only to respect but also study every HOLY Scripture of all the other religions and then move on to a much higher level of consciousness on our own. What a heavenly way to teach us the way of life without criticizing or dis-respecting any other person and his religion.

In straight words, the above stated lines strongly teach a much needed lesson to every preacher, teacher, missionary and present leader of all religions including Sikhism. They right away tell us that if we wish we can easily go on praising our own religion as the best, but in this process there is no need of pulling down the religions of others and their sacred beliefs.

Putting it differently, if you are really skillful, then just draw a bigger line of your own to show your superiority over the other. BUT there is no need to effort-fully rub off the line drawn by others, to prove your own better and bigger.

I really hope and pray that we all read the divine expressions of SRI GURU GRANTH SAHIB as a must and get our essential lessons of life at the earliest.

  1. Totally agree with Harpreet ji Thanks for sharing…I have some questions in my mind how do you see below…

    1) Guru Nanak saab visit to Haridwar and giving water on the other side of Sun which was the against other religion.
    2) Guru Nanak saab did not accept “Jannaoo”(Brahman thred)

    • Thanks Dalpreet Ji for your response,
Regarding the questions you have in mind, here is my theory for it as per my understanding.

As I love and understand Guru Nanak Sahib Ji, his persona clearly gives us an idea of how visionary he was, in his each and every deed even from his childhood days.
And as an enlightened master has always been, Guru Nanak Sahib also started in the same way as a rebellion who was not willing to take any ritual imposed upon him without any valid reason given in its support.
As I believe and understand, Guru Nanak Sahib was A True Sufi Saint, who believed in ONE GOD and also wished to show & guide everyone around him about what he really meant by EK NOOR.

And for that there were only two ways in front of him :
      1. One was to give his message to the society by showing some great miracles, which in turn could have easily forced everyone to believe in him and his sayings and make him famous at once overnight.
      2. And second was to choose to become A REBELLION and start questioning every un-understandable ritual happening around him at that time and start asking for its reason or logic from every so called learned man of the region.

And it was purely due to the greatness of the HOLY SAINT that he didnt chose the easy path of showing miracles and simply went on with the second path of being a QUESTIONING REBEL.

Further, I would like to add that as I feel Guru Nanak Sahib didnt do it for showing that he was different from every person, or for proving that he was a GOD SEND incarnation for the salvation of the mankind. The only thing he wanted was to make every single person realize that what he was doing in his life?……….,How phony or unaware he was living without knowing anything about his own rituals being practiced from ages?………..and how careless we all are to keep on following these rituals and then just die one day without making any kind of effort to attain enlightenment.

So as per my understanding, every such act of Guru Nanak Sahib of not accepting Janeo, or giving water against the sun was just a simple yet effective means of making the people aware of the useless practices being done, which were not capable of generating any positive results for the society.

Moreover I greatly respect Guru Nanak Sahib, for his actual vision behind all these acts, which was to free society from the ugly caste system prevailing very strongly at that time. If he really wanted he could have easily started by just singing divine shabads and giving lectures in order to be known as a saint.
But instead he chose the toughest path of going against the whole powerful society, being called a rebellion and then later on went on the UDASIS to spread his message in the whole world. That was in my opinion a great act of courage, confidence and love for the whole humanity.

I hope I was able to make myself clear in my expressions above and you may have got some answer for your question asked.

Do let me know how you feel about it.

  2. Dear Harpreet Singh (Boby Sing) ji,

    wjkk,wjkf.

I fully endorse your views and hope we learn the art of defending our beliefs as enunciated in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. However, as you will agree, there are points of views of other religions as well described in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and at the end Guru Ji or Bhagat ji has mentioned their own words of wisdom to guide us. Therefore, we must do comparative study of religions/beliefs of others, not only to criticise, but also to understand them better.

In today’s context when the world has become very small because of various innovations in communication and information technology, we must think up a plan to disseminate the teachings of Sri Guru Granth Sahib, which has a universal and global approach, so that the world at large can understand the Sikh psyche better and are not misunderstood and mistaken as ‘Osamas’. Sikhs are tolerant religious people and there is alwaysa need to further understand the message of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji by all including Sikhs and shape or behaviour strictly in accord with these teachings. Then and then only we shall be entitled to call ourselves Sikhs of Sri Guru Granth Sahib. There is a need to connect our behaviour with the themes enshrined in Gurbani.

    With regards and Gur Fateh.

    • Thanks Tajinder Ji for your kind comment and I really wish everyone starts giving more time to actually read personally and not just listen to what others have to say about all THE DIVING GIFTS OF THE ALMIGHTY to the mankind.

In other words, as you rightly said, Spirituality actually starts happening when we start experiencing it or start incorporating everything in our daily behavior on a personal level. Other than that there is no way to reach the higher level of understanding. Everyone really has to start individually by strongly moving IN and thats the only way as I have understood it.

  3. On contrary the concept of religion came in existence only when the Ego of one person wanted to discriminate himself from the one of others. As a mater of fact most so called Holy Books makes sure that they are the only one which gets accepted and most respected. Lets do not Compare them with Ved and Shri Guru Granth Sahib as Ved is a science and Shri Guru Granth Sahib is emotion of spirituality. The way Hindus have gone far away from Ved and Sikhs from Guru Granth Sahib, its bound to create enough blankness for hypocrates to open their shops. Such teachers and forceful preachers……………they are just shop owners………..and trust me no other business is as worthy and most paying as being such a shop owner.
    Regards
    Vinay

    • Yes Vinay Ji, you are very right in saying so. There can and should not be any comparison made between, as each HOLY SCRIPTURE has its own identity and importance.
But they are all being used by people to prove superiority of one over the another.
Hope everyone actually starts reading them and starts walking on THE RIGHT SPIRITUAL PATH they all lead to.

      HIS BLESSINGS
